Argument
Translation was the basis of language teaching for a very long time, and then rejected as new methodologies started to appear. It was a key element of the Grammar Translation Method, which was derived from the classical method of teaching Greek and Latin. This was not a positive learning experience for many: as well as learners memorizing huge lists of rules and vocabulary, this method involved them translating whole literary or historic texts word for word. Unsurprisingly, new methodologies tried to improve on this.
The translation helps us to enhance the four basic skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). The translation promotes our learning only when we apply the right activities of translation, taking into account that is an exercise than the students can do in the classroom.
Conclusion
Translation has established itself as a serious discipline in the present century. The theory and the practice of translation has gained immense popularity as the activity helps in bringing about a cross-cultural exchange. Translation fulfill an important paper in the field of education, because the teacher uses it for enhance the skills of their students and as a tool of research.

Atkinson (1987) suggests that activities that involve some translation promote guessing strategies amongst students and helps reduce the word-for- word translation that often occurs and which results in inappropriate L2 use. Even Harbord concedes that some translation work teaches students to work towards transferring meaning "rather than the word-for-word translation that occurs when the learner's unconscious need to make assumptions and correlations between languages is ignored"
Further arguments reason that the use of translation anchors previously learned vocabulary in the mind and helps learners to expand their vocabulary, rather than relying on a limited syntax. This is an argument put forth by Heltai (1989), who states that advanced learners tend to fossilize in their acquisition of vocabulary because they have learned circumlocution skills. Forcing advanced students to search for other words gives such learners a new goal in their studies. Atkinson (1987) applies the same arguments to support translation in classes with learners at an earlier stage of L2 acquisition.

e)Translation has
been an important part of English language teaching for a long time, but it has
been abandoned since communicative methodologies became dominant.
The
field of saber in a second language consists of a basic cycle, which goes until
the fourth semester, in which the process of acquisition of foreign languages
in the aspects of oral communication and written communication begins. In the
advanced cycle, which goes until the tenth semester, it is consolidated in the
acquisition of foreign languages, in the way in which students achieve an
efficient and effective use of them.
In
several meetings held at the UNAD with the aim of evaluating the teaching and
learning processes of foreign languages in the basic cycle, students and
professors presented different disagreements in this regard. Regarding the
teaching process, the lack of clarity in the definition of objectives and
contents in the course programs was pointed out, that is, the competences to be
developed were not made explicit each semester, nor were there clearly defined
goals that would allow identifying the level of student achievement.
There
was also no clarity regarding the degree of development of the communicative
competence that was expected at the end of the basic cycle. In relation to the
learning process, the poor planning of independent work was manifested, the
lack of awareness of the need to develop learning strategies and the non-use,
by students and teachers, of the existing resources in the School. Translation
has been used for centuries for the teaching of foreign languages, largely as a
result of the legacy of scholastic thought. Its use, centered on learning the
language through grammar and translation, reached its peak at the end of the
eighteenth century.
Thus,
while the teaching of a second language, through translation as the only
pedagogical strategy, is clearly inadequate and inadvisable, the purpose of
this communication is to advocate for the complementary value of the use of
guided translation exercises. With this objective in mind, this article will
begin by explaining the reasons for the integration of translation into the
teaching of a foreign language.
In
conclusion, it is convenient to consider the introduction of translation as a
teaching tool for the teaching of ELE, since the exercise of communicative
translation, duly integrated with the other skills, provides the student with
an opportunity to tackle frequent errors, as well as an area more for the
practice and consolidation of their linguistic and intercultural skills.

Several scholars have argued that translation is not a useful tool when acquiring a second or foreign language; since it provides a simplistic one to one relationship between the native and the foreign language, it can cause interference between them, and it is an artificial exercise that has nothing to do in a communicative approach to language teaching.
Translation Studies is a field of study that deals with the theory, description, and application of translation. Because it examines translation both as an interlingual transfer, and as an intercultural communication, Translation Studies can also be described as an inter-discipline which touches on other diverse fields of knowledge, including comparative literature, cultural studies, gender studies, computer science, history, linguistics, philosophy, rhetoric, and semiotics.
The skills of translation are becoming ever more important and desirable. Today’s multicultural and multilingual society demands effective, efficient, and empathetic communication between languages and cultures.
Translation is necessary for the spread of information, knowledge, and ideas. It is absolutely necessary for effective and empathetic communication between different cultures. Translation, therefore, is critical for social harmony and peace.
